<Educational philosophy and Goals>
This master's program was established in 2004 with the aim of providing graduate school education based on three pillars: linguistics as a means of approaching the essence of humanity, and Japanese and English education as foreign languages indispensable for developing domestic and international human resources who will contribute to globalization.In the field of linguistics, we train people who can contribute to the construction of general language theory by studying grammatical theory and comparative studies of languages and dialects.In the field of Japanese and English language education, we offer subjects such as Japanese language education research and English education research specialized in each language education, as well as language proficiency theory (Japanese/English), second language acquisition research, and communication education. We offer courses such as research and develop human resources who can be active as language teachers both domestically and internationally.

<The Characteristics of the Program>
A distinctive feature of this major is that it allows students to conduct cross-sectional research in diverse areas surrounding language.In addition, in order to meet the needs of society for the development of highly specialized professionals, we offer Japanese language teaching practice in our Center for Japanese Studies, as well as a group of subjects to cultivate language proficiency and communication skills and a sub-area system (For example, if a student majoring in linguistics satisfies certain study conditions, he or she can receive a certificate of completion for a minor in Japanese language education or English education.).Furthermore, we actively accept international students who wish to engage in comparative research between Japanese and their native language or to engage in Japanese language education in their home countries after graduation.
